Environmental Aspects and Impacts
The Environmental Aspects and Impacts were determined by listing the various activities and procedures Dekura undertakes, against the key areas identified below, and considering the wider interaction and implications of these with the environment, whether local, regional or global:
- use of natural resources and raw materials (including energy)
- waste management
- emissions to air
- releases to water
- operation of transport
- chemical storage and handling
- local issues (noise, vibration, odour, dust, visual appearance etc.)
- risks of environmental accidents
- performance and practices of suppliers and subcontractor
For each environmental aspect/impact, a study was made on the potential effects on the environment and possible effects on the business; both under normal and abnormal conditions. Consideration was also given as to whether these were adverse or beneficial effects/impacts.
Objectives and Targets
The Environmental Aspects and Impacts were given a measurable numeric scoring based on both probability and severity factors; these provided an overall significance rating. Using the output data from these assessments the business was able to identify their top line Objectives, from which measurable targets were set:
- achieve accreditation to BS EN ISO 14001:2004
- reduction in overall energy use
- undertake an analysis of each machines energy use
- develop and deliver (general and site specific) environmental training to all staff
- focussed reduction in office paper waste
