Dekura launches new waste management service
22nd April 2008
Dekura, the UK’s leading PVC-U recycler, has launched an innovative service to support social housing providers in meeting strict new legislation governing how they dispose of waste material produced on site.
Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs), which came into force on April 6th, are now mandatory for all construction projects worth over £300,000. The main aim of the plans is to reduce the amount of waste produced on construction sites as well as raise the profile of efficient waste planning.
With the new legislation in place, it is now fundamental for the industry, which is responsible for a large percentage of landfill waste, to address how it disposes of the unwanted material it produces.
As more and more early-generation PVC-U products come to the end of their natural lifecycle and RSLs undertake critical refurbishment projects, large volumes of waste PVC-U are being generated.
Tony Moore, general manager, Dekura, said: “The social housing sector is under increasing pressure to reduce the amount of waste it is sending to landfill. Dekura’s unique recycling service, which includes the capacity to collect and recycle both post-industrial and post-consumer waste, provides the sector with a solution.
“PVC-U is fully recyclable, as well as being low-maintenance and durable, which makes it one of the most sustainable materials used by the construction industry.
“If RSLs work in collaboration with the building industry to recover and collect this valuable resource, Dekura can bring this material back into use in a new generation of advanced PVC-U products - fully closing the loop on the recycling process.”
As an accredited and full member of Recovinly, Dekura provides a unique recycling service with the capacity to collect and recycle both post-industrial and post-consumer waste. The company is at the forefront of PVC-U recycling innovation including all aspects of waste planning and management and offers full cycle traceability on all waste material it collects.
Dekura is fully committed to its environmental responsibility and as well as being a signatory to Vinyl 2010, is supporting a wide range of UK-wide recycling initiatives.
What’s more, the PVC-U industry is not only recovering waste material but producing a new advanced generation of energy-efficient, low-maintenance sustainable products.
Tony added: “With our dedicated new collection and recycling service, Dekura can provide the social housing sector with the simple solution to site waste planning and management and in so doing help it address the strict new regulatory controls governing the disposal of site waste.”
